One of the most unique, engaging and appealing aspects of the Americans in Wartime Experience is the chance for visitors to experience outdoor events outdoors. Across the Museum site, six Landscapes of War will present full-scale, active replicas of wartime scenes from the following eras:
- World War I
- World War II
- Korean War
- Vietnam War
What did it feel like to be a soldier awaiting battle in a World War I trench, a stifling Vietnamese jungle with helicopters hovering overhead, or an urban streetscape in Iraq? Visitors will experience the sights, sounds, smells and images of each wartime era, taking them far beyond the ordinary museum exhibit. With the help of trained museum staff and docents, visitors will also be able to view, touch, climb aboard and sit inside the vehicles and aircraft of each period.
