Harold Bond Smith served in the United States Army in World War II. Harold was born on April 6, 1927 in the Richmond, Virginia area. His Father served in the U.S. Army during World War I and fought in the Argonne Forest.

Soon after Harold graduated from High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He attended Army Basic Training and was processed overseas through Camp Pickett, Virginia.

Harold boarded a troop ship in Norfolk, Virginia.  It would take 11 days to reach Italy. He trained as a Rifleman and Quartermaster, and worked in the Motor Pool once he arrived in Florence, Italy.

Harold was in Italy at the end of the war. He returned to New York and was discharge at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. Harold served in the U.S. Army for 2 years.

After the war, he worked in construction in the Richmond area and moved to Alexandria, Virginia.  Harold was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and also a member of the VFW Honor Guard which stood in honor of WWII and other Veterans at their funerals.
