Howard SchalkWorld War II

As a member of the United States Army Air Forces, Howard “Howie” Schalk served his country during World War II.  Howie enlisted in the Army on June 30, 1943 and attended basic training in Miami Beach, FL. He went to Pre-Flight School in Marianna, FL., with additional training at Maxwell Field in Alabama and then flight school in Amarillo, Texas.  He continued to advance to more flight schooling because of his ability and testing. Both the European and Pacific Wars ended while he was still in training.  He was attached to the 507th and 509th Bomb Group where he learned to fly B-20 bombers.  Howie attained the rank of Aviation Cadet and was separated from the Army Air Corps on November 7, 1945.
